Expanding Universe: Son of North Carolina

Tuesday, June 28 2011
The hospitality from the Damasks continued today in the form of free pizza and a TV, on which we watched a documentary about rumspringa, followed by more sleeping on the floor.
He might just be planking.
Eventually we were forced to leave the comfort of this temporary home in favor of a show at Night Light in Chapel Hill, so into the van we piled, and on the road we went. The road from Raleigh to Chapel Hill was, of course, accompanied by a torrential downpour, as has been the tradition during this tour, and it pretty much always lets up right before we arrive at the club, so I guess we should be happy about that.

And yes... that really does say Papsmear Teens...
Night Light is a cool little club tucked away near the UNC campus. And when I say little, I mean little...
Poor monster looks so sad that he's too big to play properly
First up for the night was a band that I had been extremely excited to see live, D&D Sluggers. With both a SNES and a DS in their equipment repertoire, I knew these guys would be a prefect fit to play with us. I want to play shows with these dudes forever. Their music was catchy and fun, their onstage banter was witty and improvisational, and their show included both sing-alongs and dance-offs.
Gabe won them both.
After D&D was a cool band from Durham, NC called Earths Collide, who had songs about both the Death of Superman comics and Masters of the Universe, so there's really no going wrong there. These guys are basically just starting out on their musical journey, and I personally am excited to see where they go next.

We were pleasantly surprised to see Cody and Chelsea, our old friends from Dragon*Con, in the audience, and were even happier that they made a request for a song before the show. We did our best to accommodate...
We're professionals here, folks.
After the show, Julio and I got into a huge argument about the amount of stink emanating from the bands' white suits and armor (which, for the record, is horrendous), but managed to not punch each other in the face, which is a pretty big victory when you consider that we've been stuffed into a rolling metal rectangle with each other for the past week.

Back to the Damask house and off to South Carolina in the morning!

  2. Cheap Vodka actually gets permanent costume stink out. An old friend used to clean Monsters Inc on Ice wardrobes using this method.
